Desserts Needed for WSFB’s Gala Auction

Many of you know that the annual gala fundraiser for West Seattle Food Bank is next month. Development Director Whit Carter thought some of you, with all of your baking prowess, might be interested in contributing to the Dessert Dash part of the Auction.
Here’s how it works for those unfamiliar: After dinner, tables of patrons collectively create a pool of funds they are willing to spend on dessert. The tables with the most donated dessert money get to choose first. So if Table 12 bids $2000 for the dessert dash and Table 10 bids $1000 dollars, Table 12 gets to “dash and pick a dessert” before Table 10.
It’s fun, and it’s mayhem. But on average, each dessert raises around $500-$600 for the food bank. Pretty sweet, right?
Here’s the opportunity. Whit is looking for 10 Community Loaves bakers to contribute a stellar dessert to the Dessert Auction. Your dessert can be cake/pie/plate of cookies/etc. I’ve attended auctions where one of the opportunities was a beautiful box of macarons, another where it was a dessert fondue, and yet another could be a beautiful cheesecake, or a stunning torte. It can be elaborate or simply delicious or both, this is an excellent opportunity for you to flex your baking sweet tooth! And remember we eat with our eyes first. Be as creative as you want and recognize that these items are helping raise even more funds for WSFB. Each dessert donated needs to serve 10-12 people.
So, I’m looking for 10 people to commit by April 5th a dessert for the auction on Saturday, April 27th. You will work directly with Whit to arrange for the drop-off or pickup of your donation. One of our CL team members, Rachel Linkhart, will share your email with Whit after we have all our volunteers.
This is an opportunity to deepen our support. It is not a Community Loaves donation per se; there is no specific financial credit or time credit to you as a CL volunteer attributed to this donation, but you still get all the beautiful Karma of helping out our local community.
What we want right now is to secure your commitment to make a dessert. Then we will assist in finalizing the logistics with Whit. You have until April 5th to let us know!
