Meet Gillian Fang!
Community Loaves bakers are a united diverse group of passionate people. This week, our Baker Story, is all about Mercer Island rising Senior, Gillian Fang! Gillian has been baking with us since April and has been contributing delicious homemade loaves to the Mercer Island Hub in support of Hopelink Bellevue. To date she has contributed 8 amazing loaves and has set her sights on a couple dozen more.
Founder and Chief Bread Officer, Katherine Kehrli, @breader_together , met up with Gillian as she was popping by the Mercer Island HTLC hub to drop off her loaves, checking them into the “freezer” for an upcoming donation. Gillian’s enthusiasm for the project is infectious and her skills as a baker belie her young years. Read on and you’ll see that she packs a whole lot of talent in her small frame.
She has been baking since she was nine; her specialties are macarons, cinnamon brioche bread, and holiday cookies. When she isn’t baking, however, she’s juggles a packed schedule, balancing her love of ballet, sewing vintage clothing, and traveling! Gillian performs with the Island Youth Ballet in their showings of the Nutcracker Ballet and Cinderella each year; she’s also sewing a coat for herself and preparing for a trip to Korea this summer.
Gillian has always had a love of baking, but it stems from a love of community. She says, “I enjoy baking not only for the creative process, but also because I love to share my baked goods with friends and family to help brighten their day.”
And isn’t Community Loaves a wonderful place to share baked goods in a meaningful way? “I joined Community Loaves as a way to use my baking to help others in a nutritious way. This has been an incredibly rewarding experience and I am glad I can contribute in some way to my community.” We’re overwhelmed by her commitment given all that incredible efforts she juggles. Thank you Gillian for giving of your time and talents in support of neighbors in need! We’re so grateful for your efforts!
Join Gillian in her efforts to reduce hunger, one loaf at a time. Visit communityloaves.org to volunteer and donate! #breadertogether#communityloaves#baketheworldabetterplace
