Meet Christine Charbonneau – West Seattle

Meet Christine Charbonneau! Christine is a West-Seattleite and a dual US/Swiss citizen. She is the past Chair of the Washington Women’s Foundation, where she first met many of our other bakers. When she’s not baking or working with the WWF, you may find Christine with her two Shih Tzus, two ragdoll cats, her koi fish, or out keeping bees! If you’re lucky, you may share some fresh honey!

Christine has been baking with us since October 18th, 2020 and she has donated 941 loaves of bread. Despite her busy schedule, Christine consistently donates 30-50 loaves each donation Sunday. Her reason for making such large batches? “I love to bake but I hate to clean, so maximizing my loaves makes for a far better baking to cleaning ratio!”

Christine joined us during a time that a lot of community members were struggling. She says, “Community Loaves was an opportunity which came at the right time.  I was worried for the most vulnerable among us.  I didn’t know what to do to help.  I never imagined that home bakers could contribute in this way until I read Katherine’s story in the news. This project has given me more than I have given to it; I have learned about local organic flours.  I have met wonderful new people.  There are many bakers who I consider much better at this, but I get to learn from them all. It is a real community, I have borrowed equipment from fellow bakers in a pinch, and commandeered an oven from my next-door neighbors when mine malfunctioned at the wrong time; and they LOVED being a part of Community Loaves—if only by accident.  Community Loaves is the best of what we can all be together, and I am thrilled to be on the team.”

Thank you, Christine, for all the amazing work that you do! Just one more example of how together we can bake the world a better place! To learn more about the work Christine does, join us at communityloaves.org and help us all become #breadertogether!
